On this tour we drive into the large lava field of the 1875 eruption in Askja. We admire the amazing scenery formed by both fire and the glacial river Jökulsá á Fjöllum, the landscape is out this world, no wonder Neil Armstrong came to this place to practise for his Lunar Landing and they brought the Mars Rover here for testing before they sent it to Mars.
We hike one kilometer to Dettifoss and if we have time, we will visit two other waterfalls, Selfoss, just above Dettifoss and Hafragilsfoss, which is a little bit further down the canyon from Dettifoss. There we get to admire beautiful rock formations of basalt pillars.

What to bring: Sturdy shoes for walking/hiking, clothing and outerwear suitable for rainy or chilly weather. Sunglasses. Don´t forget your camera!
